Rockliffe is a sleepy little village. Many fine houses nestle between 'Castle Point' and 'The Mote of Mark' which is a site of some historical importance. The village boasts a fine hotel in the Barons Craig which sometimes plays host to artists' conventions. The hotel has its own art gallery and a restaurant with stunning views across the Rough Firth.

The poem 'Rockcliffe'from the book 'Sang o the Nith' describes the beach.

'peaceful now as tide recedes
from sand and rocks and weed
