It is sometimes easy to dismiss the old factory buildings that sprang up in the Borders and Lowlands of S W Scotland to employ a generation of knitters and machinists. On closer inspection the old buildings can be quite ornate and Rosefield Mill in Dumfries at Dock Head is testimony to this.

The artist was drawn to paint the subject by the abstract patterns of broken windows,shadows and abandoned cars. It now lies in a state of some neglect but the local population is ever hopeful than some kind benefactor will restore it to its former glory.
