The refelections in this particular print are reminiscant of a Ventician scene but is in fact a view of The Old Salutation Inn and Buccleugh St Bridge that spans the River Nith. The view was painted from the old Devorgilla Bridge. The bridge took three years to build and was completed in 1794 for the grand sum of £4,588 three shillings and sixpence.

When painting the sky in this particular scene the artist turned the painting upside down using a wet on wet technique resulting in a wonderful fusion of colour.
