Routin or Roukin Brig is a place of extreme natural beauty. It spans the Cairn Linn (a tributary of the River Nith) about 7 mls from Dumfries in dramatic fashion creating a vista of rocks and tumbling water. The brig is bathed in superstitions and the spirit of a young woman in a dark cowl supposedly haunts the right hand bank of the stream as a contrition for throwing her unwanted baby from the bridge. If you look closely at the rock formation just underneath the arch it resembles a young female form. A complimentery poem accompanies this very popular print.
