Carsethorn is a small village 16mls or so from Dumfries. It is steeped in history and close by at Arbigland is to be found the birth place of Paul Jones the founder of the American Navy. At one time the small village was a busy port and remnants of this can be found along the shoreline.

The wreck of the boat on the foreshore is thought to be one of many liesure boats that used to be tethered in the shadow of Buccleugh Street Bridge. Let loose by vandals it slipped over the Caul on the River Nith eventually coming to rest on its final journey at Carsthorne. An extract from the poem Last Resting Place (Sang o the Nith ) is shown below.

to this their final resting place'
