Burns Prints
The Burns prints shown are attractive sepia coloured lithographs. Each print has an inscription relative to the print and are individually signed by the artist. They make highly unusual gifts especially for those who have a fondness for the works of Robert Burns. They are unusual in the respect that they are most suited to a double aperture mount. The original drawings from which the prints were taken were used to illustrate the book 'Sang O the Nith'. Shown are 'Burns House' where the poet wrote many of his famous works. It was also where he died on 21st July 1796. On the day of his funeral his wife 'Bonnie Jean' Armour gave birth to a posthumous son Maxwell. St Michael's Church in Dumfries was where the poet worshipped during the latter part of his life. No doubt his celebrity status increased the size of the congregation but sadly it was in St Michael's churchyard that he was taken on his final journey to be exhumed and eventually laid to rest in the Mausoleum with his 'Bonnie Jean'. Wee Sleekit Timrous Beastie was immortalised in 'Tae a Mouse'. The poem is still a firm favourite especially amongst school children all over the world. The famous Globe Inn, Dumfries is a place of pilgrimage almost to those who are fascinated with the life of the Scottish Bard. As well as being a very popular pub and restaurant it is home to the Burns Howff Club which meets regulary to enjoy literary evenings and Scottish nights. It has been the venue for countless 'Burns Suppers' and has avery unique atmosphere.
